Lago di Tovel is a lake in Trentino, Italy. At an elevation of 1178 m, its surface area is 0.38 km². The lake has been recognised as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Cpnvention in 1980.
The red lake
The lake of Tovel is known for the characteristic reddening that occurred in its waters. The phenomenon of reddening occurred in summer during the warmer months. The last strong reddening of Lake Tovel occurred in the summer of 1964.
